The Boston Celtics were one of the grittiest teams in the NBA last season, thanks to a number of dedicated players focused on fulfilling their roles on an almost nightly basis. Perhaps no Celtic exemplified that quality the most than tough guy Aron Baynes, who is expected to remain a Celtic beyond this season.

According to Sheron Blakely of NBC Sports Boston, Baynes is not expected to go anywhere else, as signs point to him inking a new deal with the Celtics, including that of his presence during Monday’s NBA Awards in Santa Monica to represent Boston.

Baynes representing the Celtics at the awards show is another sign of the connection he made with the franchise in just one season.

One can easily surmise that the Celtics called upon Baynes to represent them for more reasons than him having some free time.

In an era where big men who could stretch the floor with their shooting is a ubiquity to team rosters, the type of big men like Baynes, who are more willing to do the dirty job of clearing the boards, setting screens, and putting back misses than going out to jack up 3-pointers are still relevant.  That being said, Baynes has also started to develop an outside shot, as evidenced by the fact that he made all of his 11 career 3-pointers in the playoffs this year with the Celtics.

After getting renounced by the Detroit Pistons last year, Baynes hooked with the Celtics, who signed him to a one-year deal worth $4.3 million. In one season with the Celtics, the 31-year-old banger averaged 6.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 0.6 blocks in 81 games.
