Boston Celtics shooting guard Jaylen Brown is now eligible for an extension of his rookie deal as he enters his fourth NBA season, but the 22-year-old slasher has yet to discuss an extension with the team yet, according to Brian Robb of The Boston Sports Journal.

“I haven't heard from them,” Brown said on Wednesday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. “The ball is in their court.”

Brown is slated to make $6.53 million in the final year of his rookie deal for the 2019-20 season, but he's yet to lock down the long-term security that would allow him to call Boston his home for the long haul.

Other members of the 2016 NBA Draft class have already received gaudy contractual sums after becoming eligible for a contract extension on July 1st. Jamal Murray of the Denver Nuggets came to terms on a five-year, $170-million deal earlier in July while the Philadelphia 76ers tendered Ben Simmons a five-year max deal for the same amount.

The Celtics will have until mid-October — right before the start of the regular season — to negotiate a deal with the young wing right before his 23rd birthday. Yet the Celtics' track record for keeping their young talent isn't great, as they have yet to sign a homegrown player past his rookie contract since Rajon Rondo.

Brown and Jayson Tatum are expected to be the building blocks of this team, along with new point guard Kemba Walker, but the check must come Brown's way first, unless the Celtics are looking to deal the former No. 3 overall pick in the near future.
