A day prior to his introductory press conference with the Cleveland Cavaliers, point guard Isaiah Thomas released a self-written piece in The Players Tribune, saying his goodbye to Boston and the Celtics, along with his hello to the city he'll now call home in Cleveland.

Celtics president Danny Ainge complimented Thomas' honesty and resolve to put himself out there for people to see and try to understand.

“I will just simply say that I thought Isaiah did a fabulous job in that article,” Ainge told Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe. “He was honest and he shared the feelings that he had in that. It was a really tough thing for everybody.”

“I feel for players. I’ve been a player. I’ve been traded and I understand it, and I thought the writing he did was superb.”

The trade in exchange for Kyrie Irving was as sudden for the players involved as it was for news sources finding out about it, both scrambling to make sense of it all while lining up the details of it.

Thomas was caught by surprise when Ainge first called to give him the news, choosing to shortly end the call after making his way back home from his one-year anniversary summer vacation.

Explaining his mental process, while not necessary for him to do, was a nice gesture to a city and franchise that welcomed him in grand fashion during his two-and-a-half-years with the organization.
