Kyrie Irving did not exactly have the best of spells with the Boston Celtics. Nevertheless, the Brooklyn Nets star seems to have left quite an impression on his teammates during his time in Boston. Just ask Jayson Tatum.

In his mind, Tatum believes that in spite of all the controversy surrounding Kyrie's stint with the Celtics, his experience with Irving is something he looks back on fondly:

“I enjoyed it, my first two years in the league, being on the team with him,” Tatum said, via Steven Kubitza of Fansided. “Obviously, we didn’t achieve the ultimate goal, but there was a lot of learning experiences.”

The Celtics went all-in on Irving when they traded for him back in 2017. However, after two seasons in Boston, he decided to walk away as a free agent in the summer of 2019.

According to Tatum, however, he was able to form a deep bond with Irving during their time together as teammates — a friendship that remains to be strong to this very day:

“Somebody I’m still really close with today,” Tatum said. “Obviously, a hell of a basketball player, a hell of a person. I mean, I enjoyed it. Obviously, there were ups and downs and things like that. But you know, I feel like that’s with any team you can say that about.”

Say what you want about Kyrie, but there's no denying that he's a pretty good guy. He may have a few issues when it comes to optics, but this statement from Tatum above serves as a testament to what kind of person Kyrie truly is.
