The Boston Celtics are going to be without Kemba Walker to begin the season, which means Marcus Smart will likely draw the start at point guard. While speaking to reporters, Smart pinpointed what he needs to do while Walker is sidelined for the Celtics.

“I just need to continue to keep making plays for others and create for myself,” he said, via Matthew Geagan of CBS Boston . “We have other guys out here who work just as hard, who have been working to grasp their moment. … It sucks to have Kemba out but that means everyone has to step up.”

Walker is dealing with a knee injury that he suffered last season that is serious enough to keep him out to begin the 2020-2021 season. As a result, Smart is set to be a legitimate point guard for the Celtics for the first time since the earlier years of his career.

Given that, Smart will be tasked with running the offense and getting everyone involved. But besides making the right passes, Smart believes taking open shots can help him improve in the upcoming season.

“If I’m open, I’m definitely shooting the ball,” he said Monday. “My teammates, the coaches staff, definitely told me catch and shoot. If you’re open, shoot it.”

In recent seasons, we've witnessed Smart become the enforcer on the Celtics, contributing on both ends of the floor. While Smart is most known for his efforts on the defensive end, he'll be relied upon more to contribute to Boston's offensive attack.
