The Boston Celtics are doing whatever it takes to keep their talented trio of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart together.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Smart and the Celtics have agreed to a huge extension, tying him to Boston for the next half-decade.

Smart and Boston seemed destined for an extension, and this is big-time money for Smart. When healthy, he is a dynamic force and one of the best defenders in Boston and the NBA in general.

With Brad Stevens heading to the front office, it is no surprise he wanted this to get done quickly. The Celtics and Smart were able to agree on terms to keep him in green for at least the next five years.

Smart had a career season in 2020-2021. The Celtics kept him in the fold, having added Dennis Schroder in free agency as well as bringing back veteran Al Horford.

There is a lot to like about this Celtics team, even more after the extension of Smart. They begin the 2021-2022 NBA season with a lot of hope after a down season this past winter and spring. With the talented trio of Smart, Brown, and Tatum together for quite some time, they will try to make their way up the Eastern Conference standings.
