Marcus Smart remains without a new contract nearly a couple of weeks after the free agent market opened up. He has an offer on the table, though, from the Boston Celtics, who have extended a qualifying offer to him worth $6.05 million for a year. The Sacramento Kings are also reportedly working on a contract they hope will make the point guard bite.

The Celtics appear to have another deal in place for Smart, a longer and more lucrative one, per Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald.

Smart, according to source, would “consider” the four-year extension offer Celtics made last October, which was worth more annually than the three-year, $33 million deal just signed by Dante Exum.

The Celtics want Smart back. Boston head coach Brad Stevens was recently quoted that the team “would love to have Marcus back.” That said, intent does not always equate to reality in the NBA, especially when it comes to transacting multi-million and multi-year contracts.

Marcus Smart has been a big part of the Celtics’ turnaround over the past few seasons. Despite the lack of a respectable offense from the perimeter, his ability to contribute in several other areas more than makeup for his shaky jumper. Last season, he averaged 10.2 points on 36.7 percent shooting from the field to go with 3.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.3 steals in 54 games, including 11 starts.

Smart was also recently spotted hanging out with Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks, so perhaps the former Oklahoma State Cowboys star will take some time to weigh all his options this summer.
