Team World and Team USA engaged in a glorified pickup game tonight at Staples Center with Team World emerging with a 155-124 victory.

As with any other exhibition games during the All-Star weekend, playing defense was merely an option for the league’s up-and-coming stars, so naturally, players in the Rising Stars Challenge Game were free to go crazy – and by crazy, we mean busting out nasty throwdowns such as this left-handed Eastbay Funk Dunk that was pulled off by Boston Celtics sophomore Jaylen Brown.

Somewhere, Isaiah Rider is grinning.

With Team USA greatly behind in the game with only less than two minutes left in regulation, Jaylen Brown probably thought that if they were going to lose, he might as well use the remaining time to blow everyone’s minds with his athletic gifts. Unfortunately, Brown is not a participant in tomorrow’s Slam Dunk Contest.

Brown did not just repeatedly try to destroy the rim in the game, though. The 21-year-old shooting guard led Team USA with 35 points on 14-for-21 shooting from the field with three three-pointers, 10 rebounds, and assist, and a steal in 24 minutes of action. Had his side won, Brown would have been the sure choice to win the MVP honors for the game. Instead, it was given to Sacramento Kings guard Bogdan Bogdanovic. What Bogdanovic lacked in hops, he made up for his accuracy from deep in the game, as he finished with 26 points and seven three-pointers on 13 attempts.

On the season, Brown is averaging 14.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for the Celtics.
