Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart decided to shove Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid in retaliation for getting knocked down, and that led to Smart being ejected from the game.

It probably isn't all that surprising to see things get heated between two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, as both are trying to finish the regular season on a strong note in preparation for the playoffs.

But things certainly escalated between the two players, as Smart made it clear that he wasn't thrilled with hitting the floor.

Of course, his decision to shove Embiid probably wasn't the smartest (no pun intended), especially considering that it was obvious that it would result in an ejection.

It was a play that may have sounded good in Smart's head, but it's one that he likely should've thought through a bit longer before actually going after Embiid.

The Celtics entered the game at 43-28 overall, and they continue to try to improve their seeding in the East.

Brad Stevens' group hasn't been able to find a lot of consistency this season, and that's something Celtics fans want the team to figure out before they head into the grind of the playoffs.

Next up for Boston is a road matchup against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday before taking on the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.
