The Arizona Coyotes are on an absolute heater in the desert, and they added some incredible NHL history to their 6-0 walloping of the Washington Capitals on Monday night.

In their last five games, the Yotes have beaten the Vegas Golden Knights, Tampa Bay Lightning, Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues and Capitals, in that order.

Those five teams have more than one thing in common, besides being the toughest stretch of the season so far for Arizona. In fact, those are the last five most recent Stanley Cup champions. It's an astounding stat, and speaks even more to how well the Coyotes have been doing as of late.

They're the first team in NHL history to accomplish the feat. It also happened to be the first time since 1986 the franchise has scored five goals in a period.

Connor Ingram playing out of his mind

Connor Ingram continues to be the catalyst of the club's success; he stopped 26 shots for his second shutout in five games. The 26-year-old has been in goal for each of the last five victories, and only given up five goals in that span.

He was named the NHL's first star of the week on Monday — the first goaltender to achieve the feat since Mike Smith in 2012, according to the Associated Press.

Nick Schmaltz led the offense with two goals at a rocking Mullett Arena, while Clayon Keller picked up three assists. The show just keeps going on for this team, and the way Ingram is playing, their rapid descent up the Central Division standings doesn't seem to be anywhere close to done.

The Yotes are now just four points back of the division lead.

The Stanley Cup rundown

Alex Ovechkin's Capitals won the first Stanley Cup in franchise history in 2018, beating the Golden Knights in the latter's first NHL season.

The Blues won a thrilling Game 7 in Boston to capture their inaugural championship a year later. In 2020 and 2021, it was the borderline dynasty Bolts who came through, beating the Dallas Stars and Montreal Canadiens in consecutive years.

With a three-peat looming, the Avalanche took the crown away from Tampa in a thrilling SCF, beating the Lightning in Game 6 to capture Colorado's third title in 2022.

And last June, it was the Golden Knights who won their first-ever championship after dominating the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
