Apex Legends, the popular space battle royale shooter, is finally making its way to the Steam platform on November 4, 2020. Fans eagerly awaited the game’s arrival to the immensely famous platform after news broke out regarding EA and Valve’s partnership in October 2019.
Apex players will be delighted to hear the developer’s claims regarding the Steam launch. Chad Grenier, Apex game director, promised seamless play on a singular account. Existing Apex players can choose to play on Steam or Origin without consequence.
“If you play the game on Steam, you will have all of your account progression from your Origin account, if you have one. You can actually go back and forth between Steam and Origin as much as you want, it’s the same account.”
This is extremely good news for veterans of the battle royale. Long time players will retain their levels, skins, and progress even on the new Steam platform. The account carryover will also mean that brand new players for Apex on Steam won’t be partnered up with transitioning Origin players.
Apex is also promised to have full crossplay functionality on the Steam platform. Steam Apex players will be able to play with players on other platforms, including PlayStation, XBOX, and players on both Steam and Origin.
EA, Valve, and the game developers Respawn Entertainment, have all prepared to make the Apex Legends Steam launch a success. We will have to wait until the game officially becomes available on the Steam platform to see if everything goes smoothly. Valve is no stranger to rocky video game launches on its platform.
