Lewis Hamilton has just won his 100th Formula 1 race. The 7-time world champion won the Russian Grand Prix en route to becoming the first ever F1 driver in history to hit triple digit race wins.

What won't be making as many headlines is how the Mercedes driver's success came at the expense of McLaren's Lando Norris. The 21-year-old amazingly took pole position during qualifying and looked well on his way to winning it all, which would have denied Lewis Hamilton his 100th F1 win for at least once race.

But it was simply not to be for Norris, as disaster struck during the 51st lap of the 53-lap race. The McLaren skidded off the track, which let his chances at his first F1 race win slip away. He ended up falling to just seventh place.

The effort of his fellow Brit in Norris wasn't lost on Lewis Hamilton. In the post race interview, the F1 icon made sure to comment Lando Norris, with the two sharing an emotional moment together for the world to see.

“It's taken a long time to get to 100,” said Hamilton after the race. “And I wasn't sure it would come. Lando did such an amazing job, he had incredible pace. It was bittersweet to see my old team ahead.”

There's little doubt that Lando Norris will eventually get that elusive race win. It's just a matter of time. But for now, the moment is Lewis Hamilton's to celebrate as he adds another historic F1 feat to his already lengthy resume.
