The losing is apparently too much for the Philadelphia Flyers' management to keep Alain Vigneault as the team's head coach. Vigneault has been relieved of his duties as the bench boss of the Flyers, according to Emily Kaplan of ESPN.

The Flyers have fired coach Alain Vigneault, sources tell ESPN.

This is probably an event, not a few Flyers fans had seen coming. Philly is on a bad slump, having lost all of its last eight games, during which they have scored just 13 times while allowing a whopping total of 36 goals. The last nail in the coffin of Vigneault's career as head coach of the team apparently came when the Flyers absorbed a 7-1 annihilation at the hands of the reigning Stanley Cup champions, Tampa Bay Lightning at home on Sunday. Prior to that, the Flyers got pounded by the New York Rangers in a 4-1 loss at the Madison Square Garden.

Injuries have slowed down the Flyers, but something — or someone — has to give, and it's Vigneault, who was hired by Philly to coach the team in 2019.

According to Kaplan, former Arizona Coyotes head coach Rick Tocchet is someone who is a potential target by Philadelphia as Vigneault's replacement.

This season, Philadelphia has one of the worst offenses (2.32 goals for per game) and owns a poor defense that is giving up 3.18 goals per contest. Even the team's special teams have been nothing but an overall disappointment for the Flyers, who at least made the Stanley Cup Playoffs during Vigneault's first season with the team.
