Free agent point guard George Hill will be the number one priority for the New York Knicks in this free agency period, after failing to secure the services of former Minnesota Timberwolves starting point guard Ricky Rubio, who was traded to the Utah Jazz on Friday.

New York showed its interest in Hill, but didn't reach out to the 31-year-old in the early hours of free agency, according to ESPN's Ian Begley. The Denver Nuggets were among some of the teams to reach out to Hill as soon as midnight came.

The IUPUI product has reportedly closed the doors on a return to Salt Lake City after the Jazz traded for Rubio's services hours ago.

In order to snatch Hill in a long-term deal, the Knicks will be forced to move some contracts around, maybe the likes of Courtney Lee, but especially more so the hefty figures in Carmelo Anthony and Joakim Noah‘s contracts — deed which has proved tough to do.

The Knicks and the Houston Rockets recently attempted to negotiate a trade involving Anthony, per Begley, but talks didn't gain much traction. Stretch-four Ryan Anderson was part of the discussion, but the Knicks didn't show interest in him at the time, who was being shopped around by the Rockets.

The absolute wall in moving Anthony's contract is his no-trade clause, giving him complete and utter control of his landing spot, including a trade kicker which the Knicks will be forced to pay.
