At long last, the Georgetown Hoyas are again winners of a game against a Big East team. Let the confetti rain on Georgetown basketball head coach Patrick Ewing, whose seat might have just gotten a little cooler following the Hoyas' 81-76 home win against the DePaul Blue Demons Tuesday night.

The win did not just stop Georgetown basketball's 10-game losing skid but also put an end to the school's excruciating near 700-day drought for a victory against a Big East opponent.

“Georgetown has won its first Big East game since its conference title in March 13, 2021. It has been 682 days since the Hoyas’ last league victory,” per CBS Sports.

Georgetown basketball guard Primo Speaks, who is also the team's season leader in points, paced the Hoyas against the Blue Demons with 21 points to go along with four rebounds and six assists. He got help from Akok Akok and Brandon Murray, who each had 12 points for the Hoyas, who found a way to win despite shooting just 44.6 percent from the field and making only four of their 15 attempts from behind the arc.

Georgetown is now 1-9 in Big East play and 6-15 overall in the 2022-23 college basketball season. The Hoyas are still extremely unlikely to make it to the 2023 National Tournament. They're virtually out of consideration for an at-large berth in March Madness and the only way Georgetown basketball will make it there is by winning the Big East tournament. Given how long it took for the Hoyas to win just a single game in the conference and its ongoing struggles, it's just difficult to expect much from this team.

Nevertheless, Georgetown will look to score back-to-back wins when it takes on the St. John's Red Storm on Sunday.
