Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins says second-year big man Jaren Jackson Jr.'s knee injury is not serious.
Jackson underwent some testing on his knee, but everything came back clean:
Jackson won't play on Monday when the Grizzlies take on the Houston Rockets. Memphis is just being careful with its budding star.
On the season, Jackson is averaging 13.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for the Grizzlies. He's shooting 44.2 percent from the field, 26.3 percent from beyond the arc and 78.9 percent from the free-throw line.
The Grizzlies are 1-4 on the season. Their lone win came against the Brooklyn Nets on a Jae Crowder game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Memphis rookie point guard Ja Morant is putting up 18.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists through the Grizzlies' first five games. The explosive guard has been efficient, too, as Ja is shooting 51.4 percent from the floor.
The Grizzlies envision Morant and Jackson being a dynamic duo for hopefully the next decade. Memphis isn't expected to compete for a playoff spot this season. The goal for 2019-20 is to develop Morant, Jackson and Dillon Brooks so that the team can be competitive down the line.
We'll see if Jackson plays against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. Memphis will try and defeat Houston on Monday sans Jackson.
