Jimmy Butler threw shade at Lance Stephenson in a recent interview, and all fans knew it was only a matter of time before “Born Ready” clapped back.

The outspoken Miami Heat forward recently claimed that he knew he could cut it in the NBA after seeing a guy like Stephenson make it.

Stephenson, who now plays in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) for the Liaoning Flying Leopards, didn’t take Butler’s comments lightly.

Lance Stephenson first came into the league in 2010 when he was drafted 40th overall by the Indiana Pacers. Jimmy Butler arrived a year later, when he went 30th overall by the Chicago Bulls.

Although both guys were not highly touted prospects in their respective draft classes, Butler and Stephenson managed to carve out successful careers in the NBA and outplayed their initial draft order.

Stephenson become a vital clog off the bench in the Pacers’ playoff runs in 2012-2014 and became a serviceable player for six other NBA teams. He has career averages of 8.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists in nine seasons.

Butler, on the other hand, went on to become a four-time All-Star and developed into one of the best two-way players in the league today. He currently averages 14. 7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 4.3 steals and 1.3 blocks in three games for the Heat.

Although Butler is certainly the most successful out of the two, the pair share the same gritty personality both on and off the court.

Butler also called out Kevin Love in the same interview, lambasting him for questioning his “3am workouts” in the offseason.
