The Miami Heat have been reported to be the front-runners to sign Kyle Lowry in free agency, and if recent rumors proved to be true, they could get a bigger advantage in that pursuit.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Heat are also “exploring pathways” in order to get San Antonio Spurs swingman DeMar DeRozan and reunite him with his former Toronto Raptors teammate.

Kyle Lowry is expected to command a hefty contract in free agency, with NBA front offices expecting him to demand a three-year, $90 million contract. For what it's worth, Stein also explained in a different report that the Heat's move to pick up Goran Dragic's $19.4 million contract option paves a way for the South Beach franchise to make a sign-and-trade deal to get Lowry.

As for DeMar DeRozan, he has been recently linked with the Los Angeles Lakers, with some reports saying he is even ready to offer his services cheap to go to LA. However, the latest talks indicate that there is no truth to the rumors and that he's not as interested in joining the Purple and Gold as it initially sounded. This situation surely gives the Heat the opportunity to have talks with the Spurs scorer and work ways to get him to Miami.

It remains to be seen if the Heat can pull off such moves that would propel them to contender status once again. However, the idea of Lowry and DeRozan reuniting is definitely intriguing.
