With the 2024 WNBA draft just a few months away, all eyes are on Iowa women’s basketball star guard Caitlin Clark as she deliberates whether to enter the draft or stay for another year with the Hawkeyes.

The basketball community is abuzz with anticipation over Clark's decision, which she has described as a “win-win” situation. The choice is between realizing a lifelong dream in the WNBA or continuing her journey at Iowa, where she could work on another degree while playing college basketball with her closest friends.

During an interview in October with former WNBA player and basketball analyst Rebecca Lobo, Clark shared insights into her decision-making process.

I think the biggest thing is just my gut and kind of trust that … there’s nothing moneywise or NIL or this or that that will really affect my decision to the WNBA, which has always been my dream since I was young kid,” Clark said. “Or is it going to be staying here at Iowa and continuing to build my legacy, continuing to play in front of 15,000 people every single night, and also just be a college kid and enjoy that and continue to be around my best friends every single day.

Clark's stellar performances have only added to the weight of her decision. She recently surpassed the 3,000-point mark, setting her on a path to potentially break NCAA scoring records. This achievement highlights the strategic significance of her choice, as moving to the WNBA would allow her to capitalize on her current momentum.

Despite the challenging decision, Clark maintains a positive outlook. The opportunity to choose her path is something she attributes to the circumstances created by COVID, which have given her this unique choice. As she navigates this pivotal moment in her career, Clark's focus remains on living in the moment and not getting too stressed about the future.

“At the end of the day it's trusting my gut and in my heart I’ll know what I need to know,” she said.
