Phil Jackson's triangle offense is legendary. But it doesn't work everywhere.

Jackson won 11 NBA championships with the Bulls and Lakers thanks largely to his revolutionary offense. It's led to many imitations, none of which have matched his success.

Currently, the New York Knicks have been attempting to make the triangle relevant again with Jackson as the president of the organization. It didn't work under Derek Fisher and with new head coach Jeff Hornacek, the plan is to still use it at least some.

Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas doesn't believe it's even worth trying.

Via the New York Daily News:

“I just think if you don’t have Kobe or Shaq or Michael Jordan, the triangle doesn’t work,” the Celtics All-Star told the Daily News….

“(Hornacek will) figure it out, even if he does do it a little bit. I see they’re trying to run it every now and then,” said Thomas, who torched the Knicks in four games last season while averaging 26.8 points and 7.5 assists. “I mean, it might work. Just hopefully not against us.”

Thomas makes a good point. Maybe this offense can't be as successful unless you have some of the greatest individual players of all-time.

The Knicks do have an all-time great scorer in Carmelo Anthony but the offense still hasn't been so great. This season however, the Knicks have higher expectations with a re-tooled roster that has looked good in preseason. Maybe they'll prove Thomas wrong.
