Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell has all the time in the world to watch the NBA these days. After all, his team has been eliminated by the Houston Rockets from title contention after beating the Jazz in the Western Conference semifinals, four games to one.

And when Mitchell kicked back to relax Sunday and turned on the TV to watch the Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals series opener, he was, like most other basketball fans, shocked with the ease the C’s handled their business against the defending conference champions.

The Cavs entered the conference finals as the favorites to win the series even though the Celtics own the home-court advantage. That’s why seeing Cleveland get dismantled by Boston the way the C’s did in Game 1 was surprising to a lot of people. Boston ended the game with a 108-83 win and a 1-0 lead in the series.

Although Donovan Mitchell did not state which team he is pulling for to win the East, he’s likely backing the Celtics, where fellow Louisville product and playoffs hero Terry Rozier plays.

Mitchell had a spectacular rookie season in the NBA, as he led the Jazz in scoring during both the regular season and the playoffs. In the regular season, Mitchell powered the Jazz’s offense with 20.5 points per game. He stepped up big time in the playoffs in which he averaged 24.4 points. The future is bright for Mitchell, who is certainly dreaming he could lead Utah to the NBA’s grand stage in the future.
