The New York Jets are continuing to build their front office, and they made another important move Tuesday afternoon, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Former Philadelphia Eagles executive Joe Douglas recently took over as the team's general manager, and he hasn't wasted any time rebuilding the front office in his image. It's a significant loss for the Ravens, as they're already dealing with big changes in their front office. Ozzie Newsome stepped down as the team's general manager, as planned, following last season.

Eric DeCosta just took over in a carefully planned succession, and this will be his first season charge. In his first year running the team, he's surely not happy about losing one of his top lieutenants to the Jets.

Alexander had recently been promoted by the Ravens but bolted for another clear promotion here. Douglas worked for the Ravens for 15 years from 2000-14, so it isn't surprising that he's poaching a former colleague.

The Jets hired Douglas after a drawn-out process following the firing of Mike Maccagnan. New coach Adam Gase insisted that owner Christopher Johnson would make the final call on hiring a general manager, but it's widely believed that it was Gase's decision.

Gase and Douglas reportedly have a strong relationship, and Gase will have a lot of power and influence in the front office. Alexander is well regarded, so it seems, for now, to have been another strong hire.
