The 2017-18 NBA season ended in disarray for the New York Knicks. Unfortunately, the events from this year may carry over into next season.

It goes without saying that the most devastating blow came when big man Kristaps Porzingis tore his ACL just before the All-Star break. According to Justine Ward of SNYtv, Knicks legend Walt Frazier is among those that have not ruled out the possibility of him missing the entire season:

Also had a conversation with Walt Frazier about Kristaps Porzingis— he said he doesn’t see him playing next season AT ALL

ESPN's Ian Begley confirmed this notion while adding owner James Dolan to the mix.

Both James Dolan and Walt Frazier have raised the possibility of Kristaps Porzingis missing the entire in 2018-2019 season as he rehabs from a torn ACL

Porzingis was enjoying a stellar year prior to the knee injury in early February. He was averaging 22.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game en route to his first All-Star selection up until this season ended. That said, it makes sense that New York is going to take every precaution they can throughout the healing process.

The Knicks have wasted no time in making major changes this offseason following their abysmal 29-53 finish. There may be somewhat of a newfound sense of optimism with the hiring of David Fizdale as head coach. Although it is safe to assume that New York will struggle to get acquainted at first with the likely absence of Porzingis, the long-term health of their franchise player should be their top priority.
