The New York Knicks didn't get Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving in free agency, but they did sign a bunch of tough-minded guys who aren't going to back down from a challenge. One of those guys is Bobby Portis, who plays with a chip on his shoulder every night despite being a millionaire and living out his dream of  playing in the NBA.

Along with Portis, the Knicks signed Julius Randle, Taj Gibson, Elfrid Payton, Wayne Ellington and Marcus Morris. All six veterans are no-nonsense guys who aren't afraid of competing against the best and fouling guys hard just to send a message when they come into the lane.

Portis, in a interview with Alex Kennedy of Hoops Hype, explained why he believes Knicks fans “are in for a treat” in 2019-20.

“When you step onto the floor and someone fouls you hard or something, it’s a big thing knowing that your teammates have your back and knowing that your teammates will go through a wall for you,” Portis said. “That’s big. We know the next man has our back. I think when we step on the court, they’re going to feel us from day one. This is Knicks basketball. I think Knicks fans are in for a treat, for sure.”

Bobby Portis and Taj Gibson were teammates on the Chicago Bulls before, while Julius Randle and Elfrid Payton played on the New Orleans together last season. Portis and Gibson know what it takes to play in New York and won't be afraid of the bright lights, especially Gibson, who has been in countless playoff battles throughout his career.

Marcus Morris is a rough rider who seems to enjoy getting into scuffles just to rile his teammates up. Knicks fans are going to love that.
