The New York Knicks have become one of the main punching bags in the NBA landscape for their consistent lack of success over the last 20 years.

The latest source of criticism for the Knicks was head coach David Fizdale's response to critics about the team's reliance on isolation within their half-court offense. For reference, they use isolation possessions 7.4% of the time and produce a mere 0.667 points per possession (30th). They rank 8th in the NBA in isolation frequency.

There is no shortage of justification for fans and the media to criticize Fizdale's offense. They have been statistically the least efficient offensive team in the NBA so far this season. While some may say that basing judgment off less than a quarter of a season is not wise, it's worth mentioning that Fizdale's team had the most inefficient offense during the 2018-19 season, too.

There has been a clear lack of talent for Fizdale to work with during his time with the Knicks, so not everything should be pinned on him. However, it's clear that his coaching ability is not going to raise the floor of a team. It comes with little surprise that Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN recently called Fizdale's firing ‘inevitable' at this point.

It appears unlikely that Fizdale will last much longer with the Knicks and it's difficult to put together a list of reasons why that should not be the case. Perhaps he will experience more success in a different situation with a more stable franchise with more talent, but he has a lot of improvement to make himself, too.
