Jalen Rose says that if Kevin Durant didn’t get injured, he would have chosen Knicks over Nets
Speaking on ESPN‘s Jalen & Jacoby, Jalen Rose believes that Kevin Durant would’ve been the “lead domino” between him and Kyrie Irving. If Durant didn’t suffer an Achilles tear, he would’ve gone to the Knicks and Irving would follow. As transcribed by Nico Martinez of Fadeaway World:
“KD went from being the lead domino and trying to persuade Kyrie Irving which team they should play for to getting injured and having to miss an entire year to Kyrie Irving persuading him what they should play for,” Rose said.
“You clearly see who won out because one guy is going to be playing this year, another guy has to come back from injury. You need somebody to hold it down while you’re not out there, they’re the best of friends, so it makes sense for them to pair up. That’s what ended up making it be for the Nets instead of the Knicks.”
It’s an interesting insight from Rose. The Knicks, after all, were the heavy favorites of luring in the two stars. The rumors got louder after the team cleared cap space enough for two max-type players.
But seemingly out of the blue, it was the other team in New York which turned out winners in the free agency market. Kevin Durant is expected to be out for the whole 2019-2020 season. Until he returns, Irving’s task is to hold the fort down.
Jalen Rose could tell you that much.
