A month ago, there were rumors circulating that New York Knicks owner James Dolan was already preparing to sell the franchise. However, it was the 63-year-old executive chairman and CEO himself who made it clear that no such move would materialize in the near future.

Appearing in a TV interview, Dolan's response was very straightforward when the subject of selling the Knicks was raised.

His statement, however, does not rule out the possibility of Dolan establishing the Knicks — along with the New York Rangers — as a separate entity from the Madison Square Garden Company. Turning the Knicks into its own company should prove beneficial for the organization, and could be the answer to the team's current dry spell.

Since taking over the reigns almost two decades ago, Dolan's time with the Knicks has not been the brightest years of the storied franchise. After the end of the Patrick Ewing era back in the early 2000's, the team has only gone as far as the second round of the Playoffs. They have missed the postseason altogether 13 times in the past 17 seasons, including the last five years.

Nonetheless, the arrival of Kristaps Porzingis three years ago has somewhat lifted the hopes of the Knicks. They also scooped up a very promising stud in 18-year-old forward Kevin Knox in this year's draft. The team is not going to be contending for an NBA title anytime soon, but they are at the very least, moving towards the right direction.
