New York Knicks big man Kristaps Porzingis isn't worried about his impending five-year, $157 million extension he could sign prior to the start of the season, according to ESPN's Ian Begley. The 7-foot-3 unicorn is coming off a devastating ACL injury that could threaten his 2018-19 season, though he declined to speculate on a potential return or the possibility to miss the entire campaign.

“There’s no protocol for a 7-3 guy.” Porzingis said during Monday's media day press conference, adding that he’s felt “good vibes” and “good energy” around the organization since returning to New York last week for the first time this summer.

While doctors often can make projections based on a patient's height and weight, Porzingis defies the charts, standing at a towering 7-foot-3 and weighing only 240 pounds.

Due to the rarity of a player at his size, it's tough to approximate a potential return. But it is that same doubt that could keep the Knicks from pulling the trigger on his extension this summer. New York is also

New York could opt to make a similar move as the Golden State Warriors did with Stephen Curry, who was coming off several chronic ankle injuries — taking a controlled risk on a four-year deal, which wound up being a complete boon for the franchise looking back.

It's uncertain if Porzingis' agent, who happens to be his brother, will have the same headspace to take a similar deal, but it's certainly a route the Knicks could mull as the start of the season approaches. New York also may simply opt to push Porzingis' extension back to help keep open more flexibility next summer.
