This year's first overall pick Zion Williamson will make his much-anticipated debut at the Madison Square Garden when the New Orleans Pelicans square off against the New York Knicks in a preseason game scheduled for October 18.

Williamson is expected to steal the show from the entire Knicks team in that game, something that shouldn't really be a surprise. New York tanked for the majority of last season, hoping that they'd get the opportunity to draft Zion Williamson.

Unfortunately, they got the third overall pick in the draft lottery, which they used to select Williamson's teammate in Duke, RJ Barrett.

The Pelicans were fortunate enough to land the first overall pick, as they have drafted the potential replacement of All-NBA forward Anthony Davis, whom they traded to the Los Angeles Lakers last month. Williamson has the makings of becoming a superstar in the NBA, and if he does live up to the expectations, New Orleans could be contending for championships in the near future.

The Knicks masterplan of building a superteam with Williamson, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving failed miserably. Now, all they can do is hope that Julius Randle plays like an All-Star and Barrett emerges as one of the best rookies in this year's draft class. They are still in a pretty good position, as they have a roster that is capable of contending for a playoff spot.

It's not the perfect scenario that Knicks fans dreamt of for an entire year, but it's better than another losing season.

Hopefully.
