Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves is out to prove that he is no fluke when the 2023-24 NBA season gets underway on Tuesday. Reaves had a breakout campaign for the Lakers a season ago, becoming arguably the team's third most important player during their deep playoff run, and he was rewarded with a long-term deal with the franchise this past offseason.

However, not everyone is convinced that Reaves is on a trajectory for continued improvement.

Former NBA player Chandler Parsons recently dropped a hot take on Reaves that had some Lakers fans upset.

“I love Austin Reaves, and his ceiling is exactly what he's doing right now,” said Chandler Parsons, per FanDuel TV. “I think his ceiling is being consistent 15/5/5. He's not a player that's gonna continue to exponentially get better. It's not like the potential is through the roof with him. He is what he is, he's a great contributor, he's a solid role player, he's gonna have nights where he's gonna go off and do what he does in the fourth quarter, he's gonna close games for them, but you can't expect that from Austin Reaves. That's not fair.”

The comments, however well-intentioned they might have been, drew strong reactions from users on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Some questioned Parsons' authority on the matter.

Others noted Parsons' contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, widely considered to be one of the worst contracts in NBA history.

Reaves and the Lakers tip off their season Tuesday evening against the Denver Nuggets.
