The Los Angeles Clippers and team chairman Steve Ballmer released a statement on Sunday regarding the tragic loss of NBA and Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.

As the Lakers same-city rivals, the Clippers faced off against Bryant many times throughout his 20-year NBA career and had many memorable games at Staples Center. In 69 career games against the team, Bryant went 47-22.

Bryant, 41, along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven other passengers, died in a tragic helicopter crash on Sunday in Calabasas, California.

The helicopter was reportedly on its way to a travel basketball game prior to the incident, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Bryant is considered by many to be one of the greatest players in the league's history, and is certainly among the most influential sports figures in the history of sports given what he contributed to the game. In 20 seasons, all with the Los Angeles Lakers, Bryant earned 18 All-Star nods, was named to 15 All-NBA teams and was a five-time NBA champion. Bryant was all named league MVP for the 2008 season

The NBA legend had career averages of 25.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists while shooting 44.7 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from the three-point line.

Kobe is survived by his wife Vanessa Bryant and his three daughters Natalia, Bianka and Capri.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department held a press conference on Sunday afternoon and announced that it was still investigating the details of the tragic crash.
