A 17-year-old boy was reportedly killed near Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James' I Promise School in Akron, Ohio on Thursday night. It was an undeniably tragic incident that further shines a light on the violence that continues to terrorize the nation.

The Lakers star took to Twitter to send his prayers for the family and friends of Ethan Liming, the young man who was identified as the victim of the fatal beating:

“Our condolences goes out to the family who lost a loved one!! My the heavens above watch over you during this tragedy! Pray for our community!” LeBron wrote in his tweet.

According to a report by Jim Mackinnon of Akron Beacon Journal, Liming was found unresponsive by police near the basketball courts of the school that was established by the Lakers star in his hometown some six years ago:

Akron police said Liming was with friends who pulled into the school parking lot. The group then got into a fight with at least three other males who were on the property playing basketball, police said.

Liming was knocked unconscious and “brutally assaulted,” police said. The people who had been with the teen rushed home and called 911, police said. Police and medics who arrived found Liming unresponsive with what was described as severe injuries.

As mentioned by the Lakers talisman in his tweet, now is the time to come together to pray for this tragic loss as well as for the safety of the community.
