After being blown out by their rival Boston Celtics earlier in the week, the Los Angeles Lakers bounced back with an eight-point victory over the New York Knicks on Wednesday.

Anthony Davis and LeBron James are the obvious stars on the Lakers roster, but it was third-year point guard Alex Caruso who received MVP chants from the crowd at Madison Square Garden, per Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

Caruso is undoubtedly one of the biggest fan-favorites in the NBA today. The “bald mamba” actually plays a fairly substantial role for a Lakers squad that has the best record in the Western Conference.

The 25-year-old managed to put up just two points, one rebound and one assist in 19 minutes of play against the Knicks, but that didn't stop the crowd from cheering.

Caruso's popularity has gained so much traction this season that the Lakers fan-favorite has been among the leading vote-getters for Western Conference guards for the upcoming All-Star Game.

For the season, Alex Caruso is averaging 5.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 41.5 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from deep.

With the win, Los Angeles improves to 34-9 on the season while they try to pad their lead atop the Western Conference standings with their rival Los Angeles Clippers one spot behind.

Wednesday's loss makes the Knicks 12-32 this season, which is tied for the worst record in the NBA ahead of the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors.
