The Los Angeles Lakers officially fired Frank Vogel on Monday after a disappointing 2021-22 NBA season. The team has already been linked to a handful of potential replacements, and GM Rob Pelinka shined a bit more light into the Lakers' approach to filling the vacancy, stating it was “time for a change in leadership.”

Addressing the media on Monday, Pelinka revealed the characteristics the Lakers are seeking in their next head coach as LeBron James and Anthony Davis hope to lead the team back to the playoffs in 2022-23.

Expectations were high for the Lakers this year, and they underperformed massively. Pelinka is hoping to ensure that doesn't happen again next year by bringing in a coach who will hold players accountable. The Lakers certainly seemed to lack accountability in 2021-22, and it was noticeable on the defensive end.

As for when the Lakers will lock down their next head coach, Pelinka is looking to get it done sooner rather than later.

While the team won't be rushing the hiring process, Pelinka stressed the importance of having a replacement in place before the NBA Draft in late June.

For Pelinka, this decision could be critical. With the Lakers coming off a horrendous 2021-22 season, the GM may well be treading water when it comes to his job security. If whoever he hires fails to turn things around, it would be another huge blow on his resume in Los Angeles.

Don't expect the Lakers to leave a single stone unturned when it comes to their head coaching search, as everyone involved knows there's little room for error when it comes to the looming hire.
