The Tampa Bay Lightning entered Monday night's matchup hoping for a repeat performance of their last game. Tampa Bay demolished the Carolina Hurricanes the last time out. In fact, they set an NHL record for highest single-game shooting percentage in their 8-2 win. However, the Bolts failed to make it two in a row.

The Colorado Avalanche defeated the Lightning 4-1 in Denver. Alexander Georgiev made 37 saves on the night while Avs forward Ryan Johansen scored twice. Tampa Bay now holds a 10-7-5 record on the 2023-24 season.

After the game, head coach Jon Cooper spoke about the loss. And the veteran bench boss didn't sugarcoat his assessment of what took place on the ice. “We didn't have it tonight. That rarely happens, but the harder they tried, I think the worse it got,” he said, via Lightning reporter Chris Krenn.

The Lightning won't have a ton of time to reflect on this loss. Tampa Bay is in action again on Tuesday as they conclude their three-game road trip. They take on the Arizona Coyotes to round out this slate of away games.

So far, the win against Carolina is all the Bolts have to show for this trip. Cooper called Tuesday's game “important,” and stressed the need to pick up points. Especially when they are playing away from the friendly confines of Amalie Arena.

“We need to see if we can regroup here because, in the end, this is a three-game road trip and we've got to come away with more points than games played,” Cooper said Monday night, via Krenn.
