Brian Kelly had a messy breakup with his Notre Dame football team when he left for LSU. He basically broke up with them over text, then barely gave them the time of day to explain himself. Now, intentional or not, he seems to be salting the wound. In his introductory press conference for Louisiana State, Kelly indirectly bashed Notre Dame.

“You're looked at in terms of championship here. And I want that. I want to be under the bright lights. I want to be on the Broadway stage. That's what my passion is,” Kelly said regarding LSU.

While not mentioning his former team directly, Kelly is insinuating that he didn't get the fulfillment of championships and limelight in Notre Dame. Although he had success in his decade as the head coach, Kelly could be referring to the bright lights of the SEC.

Looking at the comparison of LSU and Notre Dame on the surface, the Fighting Irish automatically seem like a more promising team to coach. They finished the season on a seven game win streak with a record of 11-1. LSU broke even with a record of 6-6 and last place in their division.

However, LSU is a “much larger stage” for a head coach than Notre Dame. Why? Louisiana State plays in the Southeastern Conference, one of the five Division I conferences. Other big name teams in the conference include Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs. While still Division I, Notre Dame plays as an Independent (FBS).
