The Dallas Mavericks and Rick Carlisle fell in love with Luka Doncic during the predraft process. They liked him so much that they traded a future first-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks to move up two spots to grab a guy they hope becomes their next superstar.

Doncic is a guy who can play all over the court, and Carlisle evidently pans to use him at the four, which could give the Mavericks their own version of the lineup of death.

Carlisle also said that he isn't going to limit Doncic to a position, but thinks that his position on the floor is to make people better.

”This kid has won everything there is to win in European and international basketball and he's done it at an age that's unprecedented,” coach Rick Carlisle said via NBA.com. ”I'm not sure what position he is. I think his position is on the floor, making plays and making people better.”

Doncic has been a pro in Europe since the age of 13, and some have called him the best player to ever come out of the EuroLeague.

Doncic had an interesting pre-draft process because he was still playing over in Europe and wasn't able to get as many in-person workouts as some of the other prospects. He was still able to fit in interviews with teams, and he thought that he had a good relationship with Dallas.

”I've been talking to Dallas a lot,” Doncic said. ”They were very nice to me, and I think we had a very good relationship.”
