The Dallas Mavericks will reportedly also send an unprotected 2021 first-round draft pick and 2023 protected first-round pick to the New York Knicks in the deal for the Kristaps Porzingis.

It was a wild start to the NBA trade season on Thursday, as the Mavs and Knicks pulled off a huge deal that links up Porzingis with rookie Luka Doncic.

Of course, the trade came shortly after reports suggested that Porzingis had made it clear to Knicks management that he was unhappy with the state of the franchise, and that led to a quick deal being made with the Mavs.

And it appears there will also be picks involved for the Knicks, according to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

It seems at this point that the Knicks' master plan is to bring in a couple of superstars in the future, especially considering that they now have the cap space to offer to max deals for anyone interested.

This will be easier said than done given the franchise's struggles, as there may not be a lot to attract players like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving since the team continues to have issues on the court.

But with the added picks and a lot of cap space, perhaps the Knicks may be able to finally turn things around.
