The Dallas Mavericks fell short to the Memphis Grizzlies, 121-107. To make things worse, Kristaps Porzingis had to sit the rest of the game out due to breaking his nose. The Latvian big man confirmed to NBA on ESPN that he did break his nose after Josh Jackson unintentionally smashed his elbow to the big man's nose. His face immediately bled as the force was just too excessive.

A check by the team doctors will determine if the injury is serious enough to warrant sitting out games. However, it's more than likely that Porzingis will wear a face mask to protect his nose if he is cleared to play. Given how thin the frontcourt rotation for the Mavs already is, he will do everything in his power to be back with the team.

If he has to sit out, the Mavs will have to miss out on his 17.8 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.9 blocks. The last thing Rick Carlisle needs is to lose another big man: Dwight Powell ended his season early due to his Achilles.

While they still have capable bigs to field, it was obvious during the game that they badly needed Porzingis' gravity and production. With Luka Doncic out until at least February 12, he had to carry the load all by himself. In his 29 minutes of play, he got 32 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block. The game became dire after he left as there was nobody left in the roster who can carry the offense.

Mavs fans hope that his injury won't put him out of commission for longer. The last thing they need right now is to both of their stars out for their upcoming game against the Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets.
