Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic wants to win an NBA championship. He has said so repeatedly in his first three years in the league. However, for the Mavs guard, winning gold with Slovenia in the Olympics (or in any international competition) is much more meaningful than a ring in the top professional basketball league.

After bringing Slovenia one win away from the Olympics, Luka was asked which between the two–Olympic gold and NBA title–is more important to him. To the surprise of everyone, the Mavs playmaker answered it's the gold medal for the national team since nothing beats bringing success for your own country.

For what it's worth, Mavs fans have nothing to worry. After all, Doncic still has the Larry O'Brien trophy in mind.

Not a lot of players are given a chance to represent their respective nations in international competition, and being selected in the national team proves you are one of the best the country has ever produced.

Slovenia hasn't won much in international games, with their lone gold coming in EuroBasket 2017. However, with Doncic leading the way, the country has a good chance to compete and surprise a lot of people.

Moreover, Mavs supporters should not overthink Luka Doncic's statement. Sure, there were some problems involving the youngster that the front office recently faced, but it's doubtful it has anything to do with his latest remarks.

In fact, his comments only make one thing clear: he's a winner and he wants to win in every level.
