Tensions flared during the Michigan Wolverines' clash against the Wisconsin Badgers on Sunday as a full-on brawl broke out, during which Wolverines head coach Juwan Howard was seen striking another individual. In the aftermath of the wild incident, the Big Ten has released an official statement regarding the events which took place on Sunday.

The incident occured in the waning moments of the Wolverines' 77-63 defeat at the hands of Wisconsin. After the game, Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard and Howard were seen exchanging words when things got heated. After shoves were exchanged, Howard could be seen swiping and making contact with Wisconsin assistant coach Joe Krabbenhoft before the sides were separated.

“The Big Ten Conference is aware of a physical altercation involving Michigan Head Coach Juwan Howard at the conclusion of the Michigan Wolverines and Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball game. The conference is in contact with both member institutions and is currently assessing the incident. The conference will provide more information and will take swift and appropriate disciplinary action when it completes its review.”

The league is hoping to “take swift and appropriate disciplinary action,” which could result in Howard being fined and suspended by the conference. It remains to be seen if the Wolverines' head coach will face any discipline from Michigan for his involvement in the fracas.
This is just the latest in what has been a disappointing season for Howard and the Wolverines. Despite entering the year with lofty expectations, the Wolverines are just 14-11 through their first 25 games, with their chances at reaching the NCAA Tournament growing slimmer by the day.
