One of the most memorable moments in NBA sneaker history was that time when Michael Jordan laced up in Penny Hardaway's Air Flight One's in Game 3 of the 1995 Eastern Conference matchup between the Chicago Bulls and the Orlando Magic.

To this day, the details surrounding that epic occurrence is still filled with ambiguity. Did M.J. really borrow a personal pair of Penny's signature kicks? Hardaway himself reflected on the two decade-old tale in a recent interview with Aaron Dodson of The Undefeated.

Penny debunked the myth that Jordan put on a pair that was personally owned by the NBA talented turned Memphis Tigers coach.

“He’s Michael Jordan. He was the man. He didn’t ask me for them. He just told Nike to give them to him,” Hardaway said. “He said, ‘Hey, man, give me some of the kid’s shoes.’ I thought, Of course … how many pairs do you need? Do you need mine? It was like, ‘That’s Michael Jordan … wearing MY shoes.’ ”

Nevertheless, it was an absolute honor for Hardaway, who cherishes that moment to this very day.

“We all know that Michael Jordan is one of the fiercest competitors ever. He’s not gonna wear just anybody’s shoe … he wouldn’t do that for a lot of people,” Hardaway said. “For him to do that for me, it was the ultimate level of respect.”

Hardaway was once touted to be the next Michael Jordan. Unfortunately, injuries got in the way. He did have a stellar career, but the four-time All-Star never really reached the heights set by the GOAT. At the end of the day, though, he will always have this unforgettable memory to look back on.
