Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown is in Las Vegas, and according to Marc Spears of The Undefeated, he's considering playing in two summer league games.
This is somewhat surprising considering the fact that Brown had a breakout season in 2017-18 for the Boston Celtics. However, the 21-year-old doesn't feel like he is above playing in summer league games. He told Spears that he's “not too good for summer league.”
Brown averaged 14.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last season for the Celtics. After injuries to Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving shortened the rotation, Brown was forced to take a more prominent role on the team.
Article Continues BelowBrown exceeded expectations in the postseason as well. He averaged 18 points per game and had a few breakout performances. He dropped 30 points twice in the first round against the Milwaukee Bucks, and he was an instrumental part of the Celtics' improbable playoff run.
Brown has shown that he doesn't need to play in summer league games, but it really couldn't hurt for him to play in a couple games to keep him sharp. Young players can always benefit from more reps, and that's exactly what the summer league is for.
Brown's experience could be beneficial for some of the fringe players and rookies playing on the Celtics' summer league team. The main reason why the Celtics would want to keep him out of summer league would be to prevent an injury to their young stud.
Other than that, there aren't many reasons to hold Brown back from the action. He's still a 21-year-old with a lot of growing to do.
