On ESPN's “Get Up,” former NBA player Kendrick Perkins expressed his belief that Boston Celtics All-Star Jayson Tatum belongs in the MVP conversation this season.

“He is a superstar in the making, listen, Jayson Tatum overnight went from an All-Star to possibly being in the MVP conversation,” Kendrick Perkins said.

“When you watch Jayson Tatum before the All-Star break, he killed the (Los Angeles) Clippers and Kawhi Leonard and flat out outplayed them. And then you watch them last night and he was putting on a clinic. All across the board. He was in his suitcase. Not his bag, he was in his suitcase. And when you look at Jayson Tatum, I wouldn’t be surprised if this kid would be a Celtic for life.”

Tatum has played phenomenal this season for the Celtics, averaging a career-high 22.9 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 34.2 minutes per game. The 21-year-old is also shooting 44.5 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from 3-point range.

In Sunday's loss against the Los Angeles Lakers, Tatum showed glimpses of his superstar talent as he tied his career-high in points (41). LeBron James also praised Tatum's performance by calling him an “absolute problem.”

In February, Tatum has been averaging 29.7 points and 7.4 boards on 48.3 percent shooting. Nonetheless, it'll take a lot more spectacular performances to legitimately be an MVP Candidate. According to NBA's Kia MVP Ladder, Tatum is ranked No.9 in the MVP race.

Tatum has also played a vital role in the Celtics' success this season. They are currently the third seed in the Eastern Conference with a record of 39-17. They are seeking to snap their losing streak against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.
