The Dallas Mavericks have been one of the most active teams during this trade season, and they may have more moves in store. After making multiple trades to completely retool their roster, the Mavericks could be looking to bring in another star player to pair with Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis.

Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant is one player that the Mavericks have targeted as someone that they could potentially make a deal for before the deadline passes on Thursday. The Mavericks “have dreams” of forming a big three of Durant, Davis and Irving and think that can be the core that takes them to the championship, according to Sam Amick, David Aldridge and Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

NBA analyst Shaquille O'Neal weighed in on the potential trade on the NBA on TNT pregame show on Tuesday night.

“I have seen reports that the Suns are taking conversations about Kevin Durant,” O'Neal said. “With the move that they don't have to pay (Luka Doncic) a supermax, I'm sure they've got a lot of money floating around. So if they're putting it out there, it can happen.”

It is going to be very difficult for the Mavericks to actually pull off a deal due to the lack of assets that they received when they traded Doncic for Davis on Saturday. In that deal, the Mavericks netted just one young player in Max Christie and a single first-round draft pick alongside the star big man, so it's hard to see how they would have the number of assets needed to entice the Suns to deal Durant.

The Mavericks made another small move on Tuesday, trading Quentin Grimes and a draft pick to the Philadelphia 76ers for Caleb Martin. Martin is a veteran with playoff experience who can be impactful on both ends of the floor, but this deal is another example of Nico Harrison and the rest of the Dallas front office making win-now moves and going with the veteran Martin instead of the much younger Grimes.

The Mavericks may also have other moves to make outside of a possible Durant deal. They could use another ball handler alongside Irving now that Doncic is out the door, so Harrison and company will surely be busy all week long trying to make something happen.
