It’ll be an emotional night for Brooklyn Nets point guard D’Angelo Russell, who is set to face his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers, for the first time since he was traded this offseason.
Russell’s former Lakers teammate, Jordan Clarkson, believes the new Nets star will be all guns blazing in search of a win when he steps on the court at Staples Center.
“Oh he’s going to be fired up,” Clarkson said to the Los Angeles Times’ Tania Ganguli. “He’ll try to go for, 30? 40? I don’t know how many shots he’s gonna put up. He’s gonna come in here, he’s gonna try to get a win for sure. He’s definitely going to put them up. He’s going to try to win the game.”

D'Angelo Russell, the Lakers’ No. 2 overall pick in 2015, was sent to Brooklyn along with Timofey Mozgov in a trade which not only removed Mozgov’s massive contract off their books, but also paved the way for the arrival of rookie Lonzo Ball to take over as the Lakers' new franchise point guard.
While Ball has been struggling to score in his first few games as a pro, Russell has been thriving with the Nets. He’s averaging 21.7 points on 47 percent shooting, with 4.1 rebounds and 5.0 assists in his first seven games.
Russell has responded respectfully toward Lakers president Magic Johnson’s criticism of him after the trade. However, he will now have the opportunity to do his talking on the court and show Magic and the Lakers what they're missing.
