The NBA and Twitter announced a partnership on Tuesday that will bring new exclusive original live programming to Twitter.
The free content will bring more expansion of videos to Twitter, Vine and Periscope starting next season.
Commissioner Adam Silver released a statement regarding the new partnership:
We’re excited about bringing live content to Twitter, which has proven to be an ideal destination for real-time sports conversations. We’ve seen technology bring fans closer to our game, teams and players in ways we could have only imagined a decade ago. This expanded partnership will help feed our fans’ growing demand for the NBA by more deeply integrating the league across Twitter’s many platforms.
The content will include streaming live games, among the already included lineup of social media content including:
NBARapidReplay highlights, #NBAVine highlights and behind-the-scenes footage, #PhantomCam player arrivals, plays of the game, animated GIFs, #NBAmixtape custom edits, “Day in the Life” takeovers and Periscope live streams of press conferences and interviews.
Article Continues BelowThe NBA will also include videos from events, including NBA All-Star weekend, the NBA Playoffs, The Finals, NBA Draft and others, set to feature player Q&As, takeovers and behind-the-scenes access.
A free live stream of weekly pregame shows for users both logged-in and logged out of Twitter is an additional feature planned. There have been no further details on what the shows content will provide.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey also released a statement regarding the Twitter expansion partnership, and the NBA's next step in global growth.
