Texas A&M Aggies point guard JJ Caldwell will have to wait a little longer before he makes his college basketball debut. According to Jeff Goodman of ESPN, Caldwell has been suspended by the team for five games after violating an unspecified university policy.

That said, JJ Caldwell is cleared to join team practices even while serving the length of the suspension, a good time for him to reflect on his mistakes and straighten up his act.
Caldwell was recruited to the team last year but missed the entire 2016-17 season because of academic issues. The Houston Chronicle also made it clear that Caldwell’s suspension is not in any form related to the recruitment scandal that shocked the college basketball world early this week. However, Caldwell might have been given the penalty because of his DWI arrest back in May, a charge that would later be dropped.
It is worth noting that, until/if the university ever releases any direct information, any and all guesses as to why he is suspended is purely conjuncture.
A 4-star recruit in 2016, Caldwell is being groomed to be the team’s starting point guard this season, but that wouldn’t be the case at least for the first five games this year.
Currently ranked 64th overall by KenPom.com, the Aggies kick off their season against Bob Huggins’ West Virginia Mountaineers on November 10.
It will be interesting to see how Texas A&M juggles its lineup without the guard it expected to man the helm. Even after that as well, as working JJ Caldwell back into the fold will be no easy task.
