The University of Kentucky thought they landed a star when they secured the commitment of top recruit Shaedon Sharpe ahead of the 2021-22 season. The highly-coveted guard enrolled early at Kentucky in January, opening the door for him to play for the Wildcats this season. However, the star Canadian has yet to feature for John Calipari's team this year. With Sharpe still absent from the Wildcats' rotation, Coach Calipari provided fans with an outlook on when they could expect to see the former five-star recruit. Via his own Twitter account Monday morning, Calipari revealed that Sharpe would not be suiting up for Kentucky this season, though he insisted that the player is committed to returning to Lexington in 2022.
After talking with Shaedon and his parents, we want to end all of the speculation by again saying that he will not play for us this season.
He is committed to bettering himself and our team in practice this year and being better prepared to lead us next season.

Sharpe was heralded as the No. 3 overall prospect in the Class of 2022. He committed to Kentucky back in September of 2021 and enrolled early at the program in January in order to potentially get into some game action for the Wildcats this season. Despite the early enrollment, Calipari announced Monday morning that Sharpe would not be featuring in games this year, rather he would be training and preparing to lead the Wildcats in the 2022-23 campaign.

Early mock drafts have Sharpe slated as a top-10 pick, which could very well sway the talented youngster to pursue his professional dreams early rather than come back to Lexington.
Despite all the talk surrounding Sharpe's decision to enroll early at Kentucky, Calipari has revealed that there are currently no plans for the 18-year-old to see game action this season.
