South Carolina finished the season with an 18-13 overall record, going .500 (9-9) in the loaded SEC.
Frank Martin had been with the Gamecocks for 10 seasons prior to his departure Monday, finishing his tenure in Columbia with a 171-147 overall record.
Martin's years as head coach only yielded 1 NCAA Tournament appearance. However, that appearance came in 2017 when his squad advanced all the way to the Final Four as a 7 seed.
Prior to his tenure with South Carolina, Martin was the head coach at Kansas State where his program made the NCAA Tournament 4 out of 5 years. Martin is a native of Miami, FL. He began his coaching career as a high school coach in the Miami area.

South Carolina will now begin searching for a new coach following Martin's departure. South Carolina may have a tough time landing a top coaching candidate, as the program has made the Big Dance only twice in the past two decades. Once in 2004 under Dave Odom, and again in 2017 with Martin. However, the Gamecocks reside in the competitive SEC where coaching jobs are highly sought after.
South Carolina fans may now be concerned about the status of top recruit GG Jackson. Jackson is a top-ten recruit in the 2023 recruiting class, and the number two overall PF. Jackson had narrowed his list down to just five schools, and South Carolina had made the cut with the likes of Duke, UNC, and SEC rival Auburn. With recent coaching developments, it will be interesting to see if Jackson backs off his interest in the Gamecocks.
